Walking up the Hill

My five year old neighbor, I’ll call him Max, watched a video of the uneXplained tv show that I was in recently. When the show ended, Max’s parents talked about walking down the hill to visit me. “She’s not home,” Max told them. They laughed and asked him how he knew that.  “She’s walking,” he told them, pointing to the hill behind their house. “She’s walking up the hill.”

Of course I was – he’d just seen me on television walking up the hill.

When Max’s mother told me this story, I was enchanted. It bent some fixed idea of time and space, illusion and reality. It reminded me in a very vivid way that we are taught whatever we believe we understand about time and space. Max has learned that we are only in one place at a time, and if I’m walking up the hill on television, I’m walking up the hill.

The disconnect comes from the fact that Max watches home videos of himself and his parents on vacation, around the house, on hikes and playing in the river water. He understands these are videos that represent moments that he’s already experienced, moments in the past.

2012-07logan

So there must be some internal difference for him between those videos and the video of me walking up the hill. I don’t know what it is, but it makes me wonder what internal differences I’ve constructed in my own ideas of what’s real and what’s present, what’s past and what is always present.

From the point of view of expanded awareness, our assumptions and interpretations must often look as funny and possibly arbitrary as Max’s interpretation looks to me and his parents.

Aftermath: What about … ?

Since the uneXplained television episodes about the Monroe Institute (http://www.biography.com/tv/the-unexplained/videos), I’ve received quite a few inquiries and questions. I thought some might be worth sharing with the blog audience. I’m going to do this in a sort of interview format, presenting the questions then giving my answers …

I don’t really understand the Monroe Institute sound technology (hemi-sync) – what exactly is it, and what does it do?

Simplistically put (I hope this is accurate), when you introduce one tone in one ear and a slightly different tone in the other ear, the brain “hears” (or creates) a third tone that only exists in the brain. When that happens, the left and right brain hemispheres have the opportunity to follow that tone and thereby synchronize their activity – they start to work wholistically instead of separately. When the brain is working wholistically, perception and awareness have been found to change or expand.

There are other ways to reach this same state of awareness, state of consciousness: drugs, deep meditation, rituals like vision quests (starvation, dehydration), or the Sundance (exhaustion, pain) … athletes and people in the arts often recognize this state of brain synchronization as the point reached when they’re completely immersed in the moment, the now, and time loses all meaning. When they’ve finished an activity, painting or dance or song or mountain climb, they may be surprised to learn that it took many hours to complete, because it felt as if it took only a short amount of time, or it lacks any reference to time at all. With hemi-sync, one has the opportunity to experience this state without the discomforts of other methods.

Hemi-sync helps attain this state of mind, yet you maintain complete control of the experience. If you’re uncomfortable or frightened, take the headphones off and snap out of it. The hemi-sync sounds don’t do anything to you unless you allow it, follow it. Unlike drugs, it doesn’t impose a state of perception on you and hold you there until it wears off.

Hemi-sync simply helps the listener achieve an altered or expanded state of consciousness, and helps train the brain to then return to that state of consciousness at will (and without the sounds).

Why would you want to synchronize the two hemispheres of your brain?

When the brain is synchronized, it’s more efficient and has access to more information. Many people want to reach this state for “enlightenment” or spiritual wisdom … my favorite result of this state, though, is applying it to everyday life.

If I’m confused about something, having difficulty making a decision, or if my brain feels like it’s made of five thousand puzzle pieces in a hurricane (hello PTSD), I’ll listen to a hemi-sync cd – or more likely, since my brain now recognizes and remembers the path to get there, I just close my eyes, take a deep breath, and … synchronize.

I know people who have used this state to predict the stock market or outcomes of elections, make good business decisions, remember a recipe. I know people who have used it to sense safe routes to work, call their pets back home at night, find a lost earring or wallet. I’ve used it to remember appointments, find out what was making an animal sick, check on the status of a flight.

I also know people (like me) who have used it to contact long-dead relatives for a chat, to make accurate psychic predictions, to gain insight into relationships with other people or oneself.

It’s a state that can be anything from very relaxing and rejuvenating to very exciting and crazy. And the more you practice, the more useful it becomes.

Do you go out of body? How can I go out of body?

I have gone out of body, but I don’t do that now. I differentiate what I do from “out of body” because when I did experience what is referred to as going out of body, I actually felt myself as an energy body peeling out of my physical body. The best way I can describe what I do now is to say that I let my consciousness travel without any body awareness – physical body or energy body. I shift my focus. It’s easier for me to do it this way, and I feel my perceptions are clearer. My understanding is that this is similar to remote viewing.

How can you learn to go out of body? Practice. There are some books around that help teach people how to go out of body. I haven’t read any of them except Robert Monroe’s so I can’t comment on them. I taught myself how to do it many many years ago after reading Robert Monroe’s first book, then called Out of Body, now called Journeys Out of the Body. It took me about two or three weeks of trying before I peeled myself out; some people I’ve met said it took them over a year, others a few days. Keep at it, is the only advice I can give. The Monroe Institute is a good practice forum, because you get to leave all other responsibilities behind for a week and just concentrate on that if you want to … which brings us neatly to the next question:

If I go to the Monroe Institute (TMI), will I have an out of body experience?

Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know what the latest statistics are; a few years ago I read that less than 50% of the people who go to TMI have the out of body experience.

During programs I’ve attended, only two people were desperate to have an out of body experience, and those two people did. The rest of the people in the programs weren’t so focused on the out of body experience specifically; they were hoping less for the out of body experience than they were for an expansion of awareness, experiencing new ways of perception, experiencing something they’d never experienced before. I’ve never known a disappointed participant of a TMI program … I have known a lot of surprised people, and amazed, moved, wondering, curious, and grateful people have walked out of the Institute.

Is this Monroe Institute, like, a cult?

No, it’s just a place to practice having new experiences. There’s no dogma or cultish belief system… I think a lot of people who have been there get excited about it, and talk about it with great enthusiasm that may appear cultish (“You’ve got to go there! It’s amazing!”) because attending the programs has changed a lot of people’s lives. The same could probably be said for many workshops, or for things like vision quests … we who’ve been to TMI talk about it with affection and enthusiasm because that’s the workshop we chose and it worked for us in some notable way.

The only stated “dogma” of TMI: Be willing to believe that we’re more than our physical bodies.

Then they offer some sound technology to support each person’s experiencing that in their own way – no one sits up in front of you telling you how it is, what to think, what to believe. You have your own experiences in expanded awareness, and whatever you find, discover, explore, uncover, remember or do with what you experience is your business. Whatever beliefs you have or whatever belief system you choose to integrate your experiences into – Christian , Muslim, Buddhist, New Age, AmerIndian, agnostic, science, whatever – that’s up to you.

In my mind, the most attractive thing about TMI is the lack of dogma and the inclusivity. People from all different backgrounds, cultures and belief systems attend TMI programs. Most “self-help” workshops and programs attract more women than men; TMI generally has an equal share of men and women attending their programs. It’s not a cult, it’s just an experience.

Did you learn how to talk with spirits at the Monroe Institute?

No, I’ve talked with spirits ever since I can remember. The Lifelines program at TMI helped me gain a little better control over it, though, and made me realize that what I’d been doing all my life was called something (soul retrieval, soul rescue). I thought people who did soul retrievals were doing something else – I didn’t know what, but the name made it sound more complicated than what I’d been doing – ha!

Do I have to go to the Monroe Institute to try out these hemi-sync sounds?

Check out the store on the TMI webite, or go to http://www.hemi-sync.com and browse around. You can order a few cd’s and try them out on your own.

There are also shorter programs given all over the country as well as at TMI in Virginia. These shorter workshops are generally 2-3 days, and not as expensive as the full week workshops. Create a Dog

Just thought I’d share a little something that happened on Saturday. It may be related to the last post, communicating with the team, and/or an example of creating what we want, and/or being supported by the All.

In the morning I was talking on the phone with a friend and said that I might get a dog next month. We talked about that for a few minutes. After we hung up I spent about an hour thinking about what kind of dog I’d get, what I’d have to do to dog-proof the house, imagined training it, going for walks, maybe fencing the yard … My musings were detailed and charged with some longing, anticipation and happiness, and a little bit of reservation.

Three hours later I was sitting in the living room when a dog showed up at back sliding glass door. She stood looking in at me like she belonged inside, come on, let me in!

I went outside to talk with her, and she acted so happy to see me, like we were long lost friends. And she wouldn’t leave! She followed me all afternoon, occasionally wandering off to check something out but always returning.

The name on her collar was … Angel.

Being familiar with the way my team communicates with me and the way I create what I want in my life, I have to say that this was a pretty clear message that my getting a dog would be a good idea for me.

Daydreaming is powerful. It can be a fun way to create or ask a question.

Eventually I did track down Angel’s home, returning her to her family. Maybe soon I’ll be posting a picture of my new dog!

How to Communicate with Your Team (guides… whatever)

A reader of Application of Impossible Things has asked a question that seems like it might interest others. He said to me:

“We all must have a ‘team of personalities’ [how I identified guides, helpers, angels, whatever you want to call them]. Any thoughts on how we may better access or communicate with them here in our physicality?

“The thought that came to me is for one thing, we probably need to quiet down our thoughts before any new information can come in. And then perhaps also ask them to reveal themselves?”

Quieting the mind does matter, because how will you hear anyone else when your mind is chattering away? This isn’t an easy thing to do sometimes.  I have tricks that I use for myself if my mind doesn’t want to shut down. I explain to it what I’m doing as if it were separate from me; I give it a time frame to take care of its anticipation and expectations; then I give it assurance. I tell it that nothing will fall to pieces if the chatter stops for ten or twenty or thirty minutes, and at the end of that half hour we’ll address all those things it’s chattering about.

If you think about it for a few minutes, you can probably come up with your own ways to still your mind, even if just for a few minutes.

Another way to connect with our teams of personalities is to pay attention. Pay attention to what you’re doing in the present. When we do things with attention, we become aware of what’s around us,  what might be repeating in our lives, or “coincidences.” Have you seen some reference to one thing quite often in one day? Does that have a message for you? Pay attention to your dreams. Pay attention to words or themes that repeat themselves.

Try automatic writing. At first you’ll probably be self-conscious and think, “This is bullshit!” but keep at it, writing a stream of consciousness. After awhile you may find that a new kind of thought is entering your mind when you do this. You may find yourself answering your own questions, or receiving whole concepts as if they’re instantly implanted in your mind.

A few friends of mine do intense dream analysis. This may appeal to some people. At one point in the past I was interested in remembering my dreams. I set an alarm to wake myself three times each night, and when I woke I’d write down what I remembered of my dreams. Soon I didn’t need the alarm; I just woke after each dream. I’d jot down a couple of words, telling myself that these words would trigger full memory, then I’d go back to sleep. Dream interpreters have developed a very elaborate language of symbols that may assist you in building a language of communication with your team of personalities; or you may develop your own language of symbols. You may find yourself having direct communication with your team in dreams.

Meditation works for many, whether guided or free-flowing. Ask to communicate with your team. If you don’t get an answer right away, keep trying.  I’ve found that sometimes when I ask for an answer and think I’m not getting one, I’m looking in the wrong place. If I’m focused on squinting down the road at the building on the horizon, expecting my answer to be there, I’m not even going to hear someone calling out to me from behind. If I’m expecting to hear or see something, I might miss the fact that I’m feeling something quite intensely or clearly. Someone once said to me, “Meditation doesn’t work for me. I don’t see anything – it’s just black.” I asked if the black had a quality: was it velvety? Scary? Warm? Nervous? The black is something – what is it? The next thing I asked was whether this person had asked for visual communication, or had tried simply turned on the light – it’s okay to turn on the light with your imagination. Imagination is creation … it’s real. Something to think about…

Some people have found powerful direct communication with their team during workshops. Shamanism, Monroe Institute Hemi-sync exercises, guided visualization, yoga, Zen meditation …

I think that everyone has or develops their own ways of communicating with their team of personalities, guides, helpers, advisers, aspects of their Whole Self. These are just a few examples of what you might try if you’re interested in opening up a more conscious communication with them. If one doesn’t work, try a different one. If none of them work, be imaginative and come up with your own. Do you like to find little things on the ground when you walk? Ask them to communicate through the objects that you find. Do you like to read? Ask them a question, close your eyes and open a book to a random page, stick your finger down on the page then open your eyes to read the passage.

Choose or make up things that sound like fun, and have fun doing them. We tend to be very goal oriented, business-like in our adulthood. But think of how little children learn. When they want to do something, they jump right in and try it. If they don’t succeed, they try it again, or try it a different way. There’s no “failure,” it is what it is. One thing works, another doesn’t, the thing that didn’t work is left behind.

Find ways to laugh at and with yourself as you explore. I’m pretty sure your team is laughing, so you might as well join in the fun. It’s also a good way to connect with your team: humor. The sacred is also profane and nutty. Don’t go whispering to them in a church-voice if you don’t feel like it. Shout at them. Assume they can hear you and tell them a joke. Talk to them as you go about the business of the day.

I think that our teams want clearer communication with us, too, so it’s not going to be a one-way street. If everyone is trying, sooner or later you’ll hear each other.

A Fun Story of Success from a client

M wrote this note to me a couple of weeks after I did a reading for her over the phone. The note explains some of the topics that she was concerned with when she called me. She has graciously agreed that I could post this – thank you, and woo-hoo, M! You’re rocking it … !

“I just wanted to tell you that I got a job!!!!!!!!!!!

“This all happened very quickly.  I saw an ad on LinkedIn last Thursday for a [job position] with a big A/E/C company of 6,000 employees.  I responded, fill out a questionnaire from their HR Recruiter, and also on their website.  Turns out their Director of [X] was in [my town] for a few days, and wanted to meet with me.  I interviewed with them last Friday (4 people), and it went very well.  Over the weekend, they asked for references, and salary requirements.  I got the call yesterday that they want me to come onboard!!!!

“I have to tell you a few things:  First, I found out yesterday that my extended unemployment benefits are ending this Saturday, July 7th.  This is a state-wide mandate.  I had read about this happening a few weeks ago (when we spoke) but thought it would end in September for me.  I had no idea this was going to happen so quickly.

“Secondly, I had a bout of fear last Weds.  Bad.  Got really upset about things not moving forward.  And then I remembered what you had said…that my spirit had a few jobs lined up for me, and all I had to do was open the door.  I starting thinking about what that really meant, and what came up was all this fear about working again, because I had lost a few jobs in the recent past, and went thru the mill emotionally with it all.  The last f/t job I had I was fired in, which turned out to be a big blessing in disguise (terrible company), and justice was served to the people who tried to do me in… they got fired, too, 6 months later. 🙂  I realized that I had to own what I’ve done in the past, in terms of accomplishment… that I really was good at it, and that I had to blow through my fear and nail this job.  I also went to church that day and prayed for help in doing this.

“And when it came time for my interview last Friday, I was determined to nail the interview.

“I think that’s what you meant by opening the door, Natalie.  Being ready.  Knowing I can do it, and wanting it to happen.  Up to that point, I had been ambivalent, and wasn’t addressing it properly.

“So… the Universe heard my requests to stay in my home, help me find a decent job, and to find it fast.  And OMG, was this fast!!!!

“Natalie – God bless you.  I have shared this story with a few of my friends, about our reading, and they are blown away.  I am now a FIRM believer of all that is possible, but more importantly, in trusting and in knowing that the Universe is trying to always help us.

“I cannot get over the perfect timing of all this.  Uncanny, and not of this world.

“You gave me many tools to help my life move forward, and I’m using them. And becoming very aware of how to push fear aside and trust.

“Bless your heart.  And thank you. xox”

thanks M – very cool story of creating your world by applying “impossible” things 🙂

The Smoke Alarm Communicates

A few nights ago I was lying in bed reading when one of my smoke alarms beeped three times. Since it was about 11pm, I was only resigned instead of feeling aggravated – normally my smoke alarm batteries go bad between 2am and 4am, when it’s least convenient and most confusing.

I hauled my butt out of bed. I walked down the hall, opened the door to the garage to get a ladder … and discovered that the overhead garage door was open. I had forgotten to close it for the night.

I closed the overhead door then stood for a moment, wondering … what if the smoke alarm wasn’t a battery problem at all? What if it was a way to get me out of bed to find the open garage door?

Leaving the ladder in the garage, I walked back to the bedroom and went back to reading my book, waiting …

The smoke alarm stayed silent.

If I had been in more of a hurry or less relaxed, I might have just gone ahead and changed the battery in the smoke alarm. If I’d done that, I’d have missed this little gem of interest, a smoke alarm being used to alert me to something important I’d forgotten to do.

A good reminder to slow down and pay attention. How many “miracles” do we miss in our haste?

Watch for me on TV … the unXplained: Biography Channel

A new television show called the unXplained will air starting in August on the Biography Channel.

This is the show that filmed a Lifelines program at The Monroe Institute in March 2012, which I attended. During that Lifelines program, we thirteen participants “retrieved souls” who were stuck.

At least three of the individuals that I helped during the Lifelines program have been identified in historical records. The names, dates and places that they either lived, died, or both were matched up.

The film crew came to my home two weeks ago to conduct more interviews with me concerning those three individuals as well as talk to me about my experiences in Iraq, and follow me around while I did “normal” things (ugh! 😛 ).

I’ll post dates for the Monroe Institute show(s) that I’m included in when the producers let me know the dates …

To find out more about the unXplained, follow the link below.

Psychic Protection

This is a post inspired by a comment from a reader  – cheers, AgentSully.

[Insert usual explanation of my channeling here – or go look at the post entitled Suicide to read the explanation … ]

*

Me: Talk a bit about psychic protection, please.

Them: Psychic protection can be necessary we would say, or at least desirable for some. It may be understood as protection from the poorly formed ideas within your own mind, the misconceptions and misunderstandings within the mind, or as protection from particular beings who are separate from you or the thought forms that originate from beings less scrupulous than they might be with their creations. Either would be true.

We will first speak from within the viewpoint of the physical realms, from within the illusions or energy systems set up for this realm. They are real, remember, from within the realm.

Being within the physical planes of existence, know that there are certainly those who do not necessarily act with the awareness of their participation within the All. This is not to say that what they experience is outside of the All, only that they are unaware on some key level, and within their own free-will-creations they may be wagging the dog, you will say. Meaning that their free will actions are allowed free rein by the whole self, the whole self (the dog) then following along after the wagging tail, perhaps only stepping in if things get too far out of hand, for instance.

The individual is given free rein to some extent, and so may be shaping themselves or others into beings that one would not necessarily care to interact with.  You will recognize this. We speak from one particular viewpoint, within or not far from the physical, you understand. Please acknowledge.

Yes, I understand.

This assumes willful or inadvertent blindness to one’s true nature. It does not presuppose that some of these beings are inept with energy, consciously or unconsciously. On a very basic level, you have encountered people who seem quite kind and friendly, yet when you leave their presence you feel completely drained and must go lie down and somehow recover and recharge your energy. They are in fact feeding off of your energy, consciously or unconsciously, believing that they are not adequate unto themselves, having lost the memory or skill to connect with the All, the Sea of Awareness, to refresh and charge their own energy. They are yet skillful enough to gather the energy of others, believing that is the only place they can get it.

Another example would be those who do this without being within one’s physical presence. We speak of the friend on the other side of the state, the mother on the other side of the continent. Unconsciously or consciously, they may draw upon your energy and insinuate their own presence into your energy space. They may be physical personalities who do this unconsciously or consciously, or they may be beings that exist within the physical but are not always manifest as visible, shall we say. These are not fictions, they are real within the viewpoint of the physical realms. We would like to stress this without entering into that discussion.

In the case of leaving one’s body to explore the universe or other realities, other vibrational planes or places, dimensions, we will also say that it is possible here to encounter those beings that do not have respect for another. They will, if possible, cling to you or appear to interfere with your energy and comfort. It is valid to put up some protection from these beings if one chooses not to explore one’s own power over self in the presence of them, or to explore the nature of these beings.

We will leave that as is, for more will be said in a moment about this.

From the view of the All of All, from within your awareness expanded to its fullest, we would remind you that nothing comes into your experience that you do not invite or allow as a whole self. In this viewpoint, if you have encountered those who you feel you need protection from, what is it in yourself that has attracted or allowed this reality to enter your own? It may not be that you yourself harbor some mirror of this being, we would point out. It may be that what attracts them is a kindness or a curiosity. What attracts them may be a whiff of fear. This is not meant to alarm, frighten, or appear as an accusation, that something in the self allows the experience – it is presented here as a hint on the road toward understanding.

As an example, at one point Robert Monroe recounts that upon leaving his body he found two small beings clinging to him. (I don’t recall which of his books this story is in.)Monroe was disgusted and frightened by these beings piggy-backing on him. He fought to get them off of himself and could not. He begged for assistance. A man came, plucked the beings from him, smiled and left. Monroe was not amused.

Many years later he was given to revisit this incident from another viewpoint. Monroe found that he himself was, in fact, the man who came to help his struggling younger self. To avoid confusion, let us refer to him now as Young Bob (struggling with clinging things) and Old Bob (returned to help himself struggling with clinging things). The two small beings that frightened Young Bob so much, those that he tried desperately to remove, were seen from the viewpoint of Old Bob to be his own two small children’s spirits. As Old Bob, the beings did not appear malevolent or frightening at all, because he could see them clearly, without his own fear and surprise standing in the way.

It is unlikely that were one to encounter frightening beings, or beings who drew from one’s energy, that one would be able to effortlessly move oneself into a new mindset or viewpoint from which to assure oneself of what was really happening. We want to apply ourselves to explaining this in order to avoid misunderstanding, for we see that it would be quite easy for the human to imagine that because this viewpoint is smaller (Young Bob), it is wrong, or foolish, or something to be corrected. This is not necessarily so.

At any point in time you will know what you know, no more, because that is the beauty and comedy of the human realm. Remove all judgment and competition from the two viewpoints, and you will find the beauty in each. One is not wiser, only broader. One is not more valuable than the other, for they are both necessary to each other. The situation is not a test, it is only an experience. It has no potential for wrong action from either viewpoint, only the possibility of an expansion of understanding.

We would say this: do not attempt through force to convince yourself of the benevolence of something that is frightening, disturbing or otherwise unpleasant just because it might be something good if only you could see its goodness. Certainly reflect, consider, open yourself to the possibility of goodness, but we would also say that being within that which you feel honestly, that viewpoint where you are right now, is important and valuable. Monroe’s Young Bob experience had value.

You are within the human experience for valuable reasons – reasons valuable to you. So be within the moment – trust that moment. If you deny the moment you are in, will you not miss an opportunity? If you feel fear, feel it. If you feel disgust or revulsion, feel it. That is what you are here for, to go through the moment.

This is not to encourage you to lose track of the awareness that you are experiencing from this limited perspective. You are not a being wholly of emotion, for emotion is the result of perspective. Certainly train your perspective, open it back up out of the culture’s misconceptions when possible. We simply encourage you here not to deny emotion as it moves through you. Allow it to move while you also maintain what we will call intelligent emotion – the awareness of the whole self, the value of spirit-informed reason. The energies of an emotion can flow through the body and mind without them being acted out without control, upon oneself or another, is this not so? The expression of emotion is a choice. Your reason has its place in this equation.

We do not wish to get sidetracked (too late!) … what we wish to say is only that denying yourself the truth of yourself is a denial of yourself. In order to move forward, one must first be wholly aware exactly where one is.

Protection is not denial. It is only protection. In fact, when you feel and know that you are safe and protected, is there not freedom within that to resolve the form that you are faced with? This brings us back to the first paragraph, does it not?

If you feel that you need protection, set protection, for the intention of it will in fact protect you as you learn, as you explore, until you realize or understand or feel that you no longer need such protection.

That is all we have to say on this subject at present.
